This training is recommended for anyone responsible for hiring and managing people.
Overview:
This two-day training programme will give your people the confidence to implement effective hiring and onboarding strategies, ensuring a fair and consistent approach is followed.
Day 1: Recruitment & Selection Skills
Aims & Objectives:
This programme aims to equip managers with practical skills and the confidence to recruit and manage probationary periods effectively and support high performance from day one.
– Understand discrimination in accordance with the Equality Act 2010
– Recognise and mitigate unconscious bias in the recruitment process
– Create effective selection criteria using a current or recent vacancy
– Practice writing behavioural interview techniques to understand competence
Day 2: Managing Probation & Effective Performance Review Conversations
– Discuss day one protection from unfair dismissal in the Employment Rights Bill (2025)
– Establish clear performance expectations and objectives from day one
– How to prepare for and conduct probation and performance review meetings
– Practice giving negative feedback constructively
The day ends with developing an action plan for future success through proactive onboarding and performance management.
Pre-training preparation:
Before attending the training your managers are asked to:
– Review your organisation’s relevant policies e.g. recruitment, capability etc.
– Complete an online implicit bias test
– Bring details of a current or recent vacancy or job description relevant to their team
Timings:
Full day training session run from 9.30am to 4.30pm
Format:
The workshops are delivered at least one week apart and provide a mix of short presentations, pair work, group activities, and practical exercises to develop your managers’ skills, using real-life scenarios. The sessions end by developing an action plan for putting learning into practice in the workplace.
We encourage trainees to review their current practice, question values and beliefs, and take action to apply their learning to their current role.
