Who is it for?
This course is ideal for those who would like to become an MHFAider® to:
Gain the knowledge and skills to spot the signs of people experiencing poor mental health
Be confident starting a conversation and signposting a person to appropriate support
Alongside the best evidence-based Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training, MHFAiders® are also provided with three-year access to ongoing learning and support through the MHFAider Support App®.
The app gives you 24/7 digital support, access to exclusive resources, ongoing learning opportunities, and the benefit of joining England’s largest community of trained MHFAiders®.
Overview:
This training course aims to give you an understanding of issues that impact on, and relate to, people’s mental health. It will enable you to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health issues, provide initial help and guide a person towards appropriate professional help. You will be taught a set of practical skills which enables you to support someone experiencing a mental health crisis, the skills you acquire can be used to support everyone – friends, family, work colleagues and members of your community.

Aims & Objectives:
As an MHFAider® you will be able to:
Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention
Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports
Practise active listening and empathy
Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
Discuss the role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality
Practise self-care
Timings:
The course takes place over two full days, usually 1 week apart (09:30 – 17:00 with breaks)
Format:
The sessions are a mixture of presentations, discussion and group work activities.
When you have completed the course you will receive a certificate to confirm you are trained as a Mental Health Frist Aider. The training is for up to 16 delegates with a minimum of 8, and delegates must attend all sessions over both days.
MHFAider® support
MHFA training doesn’t stop when the course comes to an end. MHFA England offers continuous support for MHFAiders®, well beyond your initial certification, to ensure you can lead impactful MHFA interventions.
As an MHFAider® you will get automatic 24/7 digital support through the MHFAider Support App®. From there, you’ll find exclusive resources, ongoing learning opportunities to grow your confidence and gain the benefit of joining England’s largest community of trained MHFAiders®.

Please Note: The courses can be quite emotive in nature, so it is important to be aware that it could evoke some emotional feelings. We aim to provide a safe learning environment and are trained to support you throughout the course.
