Preventing Sexual Harassment at Work
Who is it for?
Recommended for customer-facing staff, including supervisors, team leads and managers.
Overview:
This workshop is designed to raise awareness, interrupt risky behaviour, and reinforce leadership responsibility before issues become formal complaints. The follow-on session for supervisors will clarify the role of supervisors in setting the tone, intervening early, and leading by example.
Aims & Objectives:
This workshop aims to help everyone recognise sexual harassment and other unacceptable behaviours in the workplace.
By the end of this workshop you will be able to:
Proactively tackle the conditions that allow harassment to happen, not just the incident itself.
Understand the shared responsibility to prevent sexual harassment at work
Recognise the steps to take if sexual harassment is experienced or witnessed at work
Outline:
- What is sexual harassment?
- What constitutes sexual harassment at work
- The impact of sexual harassment at work
- Speaking up and the bystander effect
- How to respond in the moment as a colleague or customer‑facing staff member
- Raising concerns and supporting others
Supervisor session:
Action planning and personal commitment to reinforcing a positive working culture
- The role of the supervisor to prevent sexual harassment at work
- The role of the supervisor in setting culture, modelling respect, and intervening early
- When to escalate and how to avoid minimising or dismissing issues
Timings:
The main workshop of 2.5-hours brings together people from across the team to create a shared understanding of roles and responsibilities to address sexual harassment at work. The follow-on session for supervisors is 45-minutes to agree future working practices and create a shared commitment to prevent and address sexual harassment at work.
Methodology:
The workshop is a combination of short presentations, pair-work discussions and group interactive activities.
Participants will be asked to make themselves aware of your relevant policies and procedures.
Note:
The workshop is a mix of theory and practical skills development. The session ends by developing an action plan for putting learning into practice in the workplace.
